Aren Collins, President 

Aren Collins is a young professional working for a rising tech company in Chicago IL.  Aren is proven leader having held several leadership roles at his alma mater, University of Missouri, where he obtained his Bachelors of Science in Business Administration with an emphasis in Finance.  

Aren’s previous non-profit leadership experience involves with the Mizzou’s Black Business Association and AIESEC at Mizzou involves him leading, coaching, and uplifting the younger members of the organization.  He has personally campaigned and hosted events on his organization behalf creating the optimal environment for its members.

Aren’s purpose for starting this organization is to help coach the next class of leaders.  He wants to show students that although education is powerful there are other ways to achieve your goals and in order to achieve those goals you must start now.

Karen Collins, Finance Chair 

Karen Collins is a leading accounting, finance and regulatory advisor and strategist. Karen is a native Midwesterner where she started her career in public accounting. She has held various tax, accounting, finance and technology leadership positions in the energy (both traditional and renewable energy properties), banking and technology sectors. 

Karen is a CPA and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants. Karen has served in various governance, mentoring and advocacy roles including YMCA, Junior Achievement, HOPE, and She’s The First Educational Foundation. 

Karen’s statement of purpose includes “nurturing the potential of every youth. We know that through knowledge, character development, guidance and encouragement, young people will realize their full potential and become positive and active members of their communities.”

William Collins, Vice President 

William Collins is an inventor.  Raised in the Midwest, he is a Big Ten product for both his undergraduate and advanced degrees. He holds a B.S. in Chemistry and a M.S. and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering. William was a tenured Associate Professor in Chemical Engineering and conducted research in biomaterials and biomedical engineering.  He developed and taught several undergraduate and graduate courses in Chemical Engineering. William also served as the research advisor to a number of students who earned a M.S. in Chemical Engineering and to a student who earned a Ph.D., modeling biological systems with numerical methods. 

William’s statement, “KDC Scholars teaches our youth excellence, providing them with what it takes to succeed in any millennium. All youth have the ability to make a positive contribution to society, if they are given a chance.”

Okey Ukaga, Marketing Chair

Okey Ukaga is the Marketing Chair for KDC Scholars. Currently, he works as a Business Analyst for Dish Network’s OTT service, Sling TV. Prior to Sling TV, he studied Health Sciences at the University of Missouri, where he served as a two-term President and Undergraduate Adviser for the African Student Association, and as Director of Partnerships and Sponsorship for TEDxMU (https://www.ted.com/tedx/events/16968). Before graduating Okey, joined Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. Zeta Alpha Chapter and co-founded a Feminist music collective called The Wimpact (www.thewimpact.com). In his free time he produces and writes music, play soccer, and enjoys cooking. Recently, he co-founded the African American Network at Dish Network (AAN@DISH) where he serves as the inaugural President.
